Mathura 2016.06.01 (VT): There was a time when the residents of Shahadpur had witnesses the pond filled to its capacity throughout the year. The air used to be pure and fresh and there was ample water for even the animals to quench their thirst. More over the hand pumps were not required to dig deep to get the water flowing.
Since the time the pond has dried up the villagers are wandering here and there for water. Following the example of other nearby villages that are making their own way to create a pond for water supply, the village head stepped and encouraged the residents to follow suit. Within no time, the villagers picked up their digging and boring tools and started digging with enthusiasm.
The total area of the pond is 1 hectare. Every morning the villagers come together to help each other to make this dream turn into reality. Each and every one is filled with loads of energy and enthusiasm even under the scorching heat of the sun. They work hard until sunset.
The head of the village is very happy with the initiative and says that through this project we can pass on a very important message to others which is “Save Water, Save Life”. With the scarcity of water everywhere and the rapid decrease in water levels it is very necessary to create more awareness in terms of decreasing unnecessary consumption and wastage of water.
