Govardhan, 2019-08-05 (VT): Hearing the petition filed by the UP government, Supreme Court judges S. Abdul Nazir and Subhash Reddy ordered an interim stay on formation of the Shrine Board. The court recommended that the petition be should be grouped with the Giriraj Parikrama Conservation Case and heard simultaneously.
Appearing for the Uttar Pradesh Government, Additional Solicitor General, Pinki Anand requested a stay on formation of Shrine Board ordered by the NGT. Despite strong opposition by advocate Sarthak Chaturvedi and Rahul Shukla on behalf of the petitioners, the Supreme Court issued an interim stay order and directed a combined hearing on all cases.
The court also said that except the 17th point related to Shrine Board, the remaining 16 point recommendation of the NGT must be followed.
UP Govt’s advocate in the NGT, Amit Tiwari said that the government is dedicated to the conservation and development of Govardhan Parikrama, but Shrine Board is a sensitive issue. All dimensions and viewpoints must be carefully studied and discussed before arriving at a decision.
All petitions filed against the Govardhan Shrine Board will be heard on August 6
However, Giriraj Parikrama Conservation Committee petitioners Anand Gopal Das and Satyaprakash Mangal are hopeful that the above petitions will be annulled. SC advocate Sarthak Chaturvedi added that a detailed hearing will be held on all petitions filed by the Giriraj Parikrama Conservation Committee, UP and Rajasthan Governments to establish that the petitions against Shrine Board only serve to muddle the case and waste the court’s time and money.
