Govardhan, 2019-09-28 (VT): Hearing the Govardhan Parikrama Conservation Case on Friday, the National Green Tribunal banned all unregistered e-rickshaws in Govardhan. The Tribunal further gave orders for compulsory registration of all these vehicles in Mathura.
While hearing the Case, the NGT bench headed by Justice R.S. Rathore found that at present there are 298 registered e-rickshaws operating in Govardhan. The maximum number allowed is 400. Every vehicle is allowed to ferry not more than four passengers at a time, charging a maximum of Rs 100 per passenger.
The NGT also directed that all e-rickshaws be allowed to drive keeping to the left of Parikrama Marg, and allotted fixed parking spaces. There will be several ‘no-parking zones’ made all along the Parikrama Marg. Traffic and Tourists Departments will have the authority to act against unregistered battery rickshaws.
Local residents and vehicles will be issued passes based on ‘Aadhar Cards’. However, the administration has been directed to ensure that no vehicles is parked randomly on the Parikrama Marg.
