Sonkh, March 30th 2015: “It is my desire that women should feel safe and Vraja becomes a clean and beautiful place. The people of Vraja shouldn’t suffer for not having access to the potable water,” said Hema Malini, the Member of Parliament from Mathura, while inaugurating Uttar Pradesh’s first drinking water ATM on Monday at Sonkh, 20 km away from the District headquarters. She was addressing a gathering in the Vidya Mandir where the launching ceremony was organized. She elaborated about the schemes of development being pursued by her in the constituency.
The cost of the water facility to provide potable water is around 18 lakh. According to Sonkh municipal committee’s Ex-chairman Shiv Shankar Verma, people will have to pay just Rs. 2 for 20 litres of drinking bottle. “The water ATM will be operated with a pre-paid card, which will benefit around 2500 families. The children will get water for free.
Sonkh presently gets piped water from a distance of 10 km from the town. Mathura District administration is considering providing the RO water in the villages too. The District Magistrate Rajesh Kumar has recommended using solar energy to power the RO plant in the village to the state government. The UP Jal Nigam will execute the project. The initiative is based on a central survey report.
Dheerendra Sachan, the ADM (Finance & Revenue) of Mathura District said, “Every village panchayats and municipalities should follow Sonkh to provide safe drinking water to its citizen”.
Mathura Chairperson, Smt. Manisha Gupta, Industrialist Subodh Yadav, Trader leader Sudhir Babu Agrawal , Bhagwat Ruhela etc. were present during the function.
