Mathura, 2019-11-06 (VT): On the auspicious day of Akshay Navami which was celebrated yesterday, millions of devotees performed the ‘Panchkosi Parikrama’ of Mathuraji. An unbroken human chain was formed as people kept joining the Parikrama throughout the day chanting the divine names of Shri Radha and Krishna.
Devotees usually begin the ‘Parikrama’ of Mathuraji from Vishram Ghat, Rangeshwar Mahadeva or Mahvidya Devi, stopping for ‘Darshan’ at prominent temples like Kankali, Bhuteshwar, Gokarnnath, Pippaleshwar, Chamunda, and others.
Some people also follow the tradition of doing ‘Parikrama’ of Mathura, Vrindavan and Garuda Govindji on this day as it believed to bestow immense spiritual merit.
‘Phool Banglas’, ‘Chappan Bhog’ and ‘Annakoot’ were organised at various temples such as the ancient Gopinath Mandir in Mathura and Radha Kund (Govardhan). 31000 lamps were offered during the evening ‘Deep Daan’ at the Kund.
The Giriraj temple at Radha Kund was decorated in the form of a grand palace where the deity of Govardhan Baba sat looking looked resplendent with a silver ‘mukut’ (crown) and ‘bansi’ (flute). A ‘Bhajan Sandhya’ was organised in the evening.
Women devotees also worshipped the ‘Amla’ tree to pray for the peace and prosperity of their families.
Once again, the administration failed in providing basic facilities such as proper lighting, mobile toilets, cleanliness, safe roads and parking facilities. Despite repeated complaints, the stretch from Panchmukhi Hanuman to Gopal Khar in Vrindavan was not repaired. Stones and slippery mud at Shringar Vat and Chir Ghat further inconvenienced the Parikramarthis.
