Vrindavan, 2019-12-09 (VT): The Yogi Adityanath-led UP government is gearing up for the Vrindavan Kumbh Mela that is scheduled in Feb-March 2021. Planning is underway to make this confluence of Dharma, Bhakti and Vairagya a grand spectacle in order to showcase the rich heritage and culture of Shri Dham Vrindavan and the state at large.
Handing over the responsibility of the event to Braj Teerth Vikas Parishad (BTVP) at a meeting held in Lucknow, the CM said that he will be closely monitoring its management.
The 40-day Vrindavan Kumbh organised at the banks of river Yamuna is held after the Haridwar Kunbh which takes place once in every 12 years. There are several lilas relating the Kumbh to Vrindavan. One popular belief is that while flying with the pitcher of amrit (nectar) obtained after ‘Samudra Manthan’, Garud Dev sat on the Kadamba tree at Kalidah.
The last Vrindavan Kumbh was held in 2010. The 2021 Kumbh will begin on Basant Panchami and carry on until Rangbharani Ekadashi. Like the Prayagraj, Nashik, Ujaain and Haridwar Kumbh, the Vrindavan Kumbh Mela will also graced by the presence of many great saints from various Akhadas.
The administration has been directed to free the 5-6 sqkm area around Yamuna Ghats of encroachment and stop the process of leasing land in this area. Lease agreements done in the past will be terminated before the end of next year.
