Vrindavan, 10th May, 2015: The fourth centennial of the Chaitanya Charitamrita was celebrated by the Goudiya Vaishnavas in Vrindavan. A conference was jointly organized by the ‘ Chaitanya Mahaprabhu 5th centennial of Vrindavan arrival celebration committee’ and the ‘Bari Surma Kunj’ at the Vivekananda Auditorium. The conference began with the reciting of Mangalacharan by Pt. Vishnu Kant Shashtri and lamp lighting by the local M.L.A Shri Pradeep Mathur.
On this occasion the speakers glorified Shriman Chaitanya Mahaprabhu and the holy text of Chaitanya Charitamrita. The speakers said the Chaitanya Charitamrita helped the devotees to learn about the teachings and life of Mahaprabhu. They also said that Mahaprabhu was the combined form of Radha and Krishna. He came to this world to feel the love which Radha Rani felt for Krishna. He showed the example on how to surrender to Krishna. He exhibited symptoms of love of God to the highest degree, and emphasized chanting the holy names of Krishna as the best to attain the love of God.
Presiding over the function Mahant Haridas ji Maharaj said, “Chaitanya Charitamrita serves as compendium of Gaudiya Vaishnava practices and outlines the gaudiya theology developed by the Goswamis in metaphysics, ontology and aesthetics.” Mahant Prem Das Shashtri said, “Mahaprabhu gave a new dimension to the Krishna consciousness in the spiritual world.”
“Shri Chaitanya Charitamrita is the confluence of the cultures of Vraja and Bengal. Although the scripts are in Simple Bengali, but in many places of this literature the Vraja language is used in this book, which made it easier to read.”
Dr. Pratap Pal Sharma and Dr. Shailendra Nath Pandey emphasized on the Divine nature of this ‘grantha’. They said, “there are many works of various saints on the life of Mahaprabhu, but Krishna Das Kaviraj Goswami’s Chaitanya Charitamritya is much special as it gives the feeling unfulfilled love and pain of separation from the Divine. The work of Kaviraj Goswami becomes ecstatic when it describes how a devotee and Shri Krishna are inseparable. There is no difference between Sadhak and Sadhya.
Mahant Ful Dol Bihari Das said, “While Shri Krishna Das Kaviraj Goswami never met Shriman Mahaprabhu personally, he heard about Shriman Mahaprabhu’s pastime from his guru Shri Raghunath Das Goswami, who was an associate of Shri Chaitanya, and was close to the other intimates of the Lord. He took reference from the holy text written by Shri Murari Gupta and the works of Shri Swaroop Damodar in writing Shri Chaitanya Charitamrita.
Saint Haribol Baba said, “Krishna Das Kaviraj Goswami composed the Chaitanya Charitamrita when he was very old. He was requested by the Vaishnavas of Vrindavan to write a hagiography about the life of Chaitanya. Although there was already a biography written by Shri Vrindavan Das, called the Chaitanya Bhagwat, the later years of Chaitanya’s life were not detailed in that work. Krishna Das Kaviraj’s Chaitanya Charitamrita covers Chaitanya’s later years abd also explains in detain the rasa philosophy that Chaitanya and his followers expounded.”
Kishori Sharan Bhaktamali said, “The Chaitanya Charitamrita was frequently copied and widely circulated amongst the Vaishnava communities of Bengal and Odhisha during the early 17thc century. Its popularity during this period can be attributed to the propagation of three Vaishnava preachers called Narottama Das Thakur, Shyamananda Gowami and Shrinivasa Acharya who were trained by Jiva Goswai and Krishna Das Kaviraja himself.”
Baba Radha Madhav Das said that the arrival of Mahaprabhu in Vrindavan and re – discovering the holy dham is the biggest gift for the world. If Vrindavan was not re- discovered then the world wouldn’t know about the internal pastimes of Radha and Krishna, for which even the gods are anxious to know.
Jagatguru Radha Ballabh Dasacharya, Madhusudan Maharaj and Maheshananda Saraswati said the Chaitanya Charitamrita is the link between soul and the Divine. Those who read the text of Chaitanya Charitamrita with the depth of their heart they become saint by default.
Prahlad Das, Bharat Sevak Das and Tamal Krishna Das said that they always felt that there are not enough words in the dictionary to glorify the Divine character of Shriman Mahaprabhu and the works of Kaviraj Goswami pada.
Shakti Maharaj, Dr. Ashok Agrawal, Pradeep Mathur, Shyam Sharan Das, Bihari Lal Bashishtha, member Shatrughna Sharma, Jagdish Neelam, Acharya Buddhi Prakash, Mohan Soni, Mahant Parmananda Saraswati, Radha Raman Das, Dina Dayal Das, Radha Charan, Haricharan, etc were present.
