Mathura, 2019-08-20 (VT): The revocation of the contentious Articles 370 and 35a pertaining to the special status of the Indian state of Jammu and Kashmir was reciprocated with the suspension of bilateral trade, train and bus services by Pakistan.
In response to Pak’s hostile attitude, saints of Braj have decided to boycott its rock salt (Sendha Namak) that is used in ‘Bhog/prasad’ and ‘upavasa’ (fasting) recipes. In some ‘goshalas’ of Braj, such as Vrindavan’s Shripad Goshala, Pakistani rock salt is also fed to the cows to improve their digestion.
The movement for boycott of ‘Lahori Namak’ and Pakistani dry fruits began in Varanasi. Jumping on the bandwagon, Braj saints also held a demonstration at Chaitanya Kuti Ashram on Parikrama Marg where they denounced Pakistan’s reaction and said that the Pak PM Imran Khan has lost his mind. The saints and their disciples pledged to shun all Pakistani products.
Among those who took part in the protest were Mahant Phooldolbihari Das, Mahamandaleshwar Swami Radha Prasad Dev, Swami Naval Giri, Swami Adityanand, Sant Haribol Baba, Mahant Ramjeevan Das, Mahant Mohinibihari Sharan, Harihar Das, Prahlad Das, Hairshankar Das Naga, Manohar Das, Navalbihari Sharan, Shatrughan Das and others.
On August 5, 2019, the Government of India revoked Jammu and Kashmir’s special status through a Presidential Order and the passage of a resolution in Parliament. The historic decision caused a major political storm on the other side of the border. Pakistan was quick to respond with suspension of bilateral trade, Samjhauta Express and Amritsar-Lahore bus service and a ban on Hindi/Bollywood movies.
