Govardhan, 2019.04.22 (VT): Several potholes on the Govardhan Marg have rendered the busy route risky for commuters. In the recent past, the number of people injured due to tempos and two-wheelers turning turtle has seen a steep rise.
The entire stretch from Satoha to Govardhan, which was supposed to be developed as a four-lane route, has become an accident-prone zone because of the delay in clearance from the forest department of Lonivi provincial division.
The four-lane route was proposed from Mathura to Deeg Choraha in Govardhan at the cost of approx. 138 crores. Lonivi Forest Department has not approved the project yet as it involves the cutting down of most of the (approx.) 12,000 trees on the route.
Around two months back, Public Works Departments undertook repair and construction work in the city area, but it was stopped and all equipment was seized at the order of the Forest Department. PWD officials say that the project can resume only after clearance.
