Nandagaon, 2019.08.22 (VT): As authorities race against time to save the crumbling monuments of Vrindavan, residents are ringing alarm bells about monuments in Nandagaon that date back to Shri Krishna’s time but are being left unprotected.
Among the monuments from Krishna’s time in need of attention are the ancient statues of Hau Bilau, which are said to have been used by Mother Yashoda to scare Krishna and Balaram into coming home. This ancient relics are left outside to weather the elements and are already worn down.
No podium has been built to protect the statues, and, like most Braj monuments, there is no plaque giving information, so even the most basic information has to be garnered from local guides.
According to local media reports, around 15 years ago, two statues from the area were stolen by stone smugglers. Presently, two statues remain at Yashoda Kund. These statues are connected to Shri Krishna’s childhood pastimes and are in need of promotion and protection.
