Vrindavan, 2019.04.22 (VT): Venunad Kala Kendra, Vrindavan organised its 25th annual Odissi Dance Festival on Saturday. The event was held at the Vivekananda Auditorium in Ramakrishna Mission.
Acharya Shrivatsa Goswamiji and Swami Govindanand Teertha Maharaj graced the event as chief guests. The program started with a lamp-lighting ceremony, after which the dignitaries garlanded Lord Jagannath’s image.
The guests were welcomed by Shri Guru Pratap Narayan (president, Venunad Kala Kendra), Sadhvi Vishnu Priya (vice president) and Kunjlata Mishra (director).
Dancers from India and abroad took part in the function and enthralled the audience with stunning Odissi dance performances such as Krishna Vandana, Jagannath Stuti, Ganesh Vandana, Guru Vandana, Ganga Stuti, Rageshwari Palvi, Govind Damodar Lila, and Surya Vandana.
The Odissi rendition of Braj’s traditional Raaslila was the highlight of the event.
The performances were given by Aditi Agrwal, Swati Sharma, Samruddhi Sharma, Mansi Kaushik, Tiya Lathar, Badaniya Bansal, Taisa Sharma, Bhumika Singh, Radhika Shrivastava, Neetu Singh, Priya Sakhi and other students of the institute.
Venunad Kala Kendra was founded in 1994 in Shri Vrindavana Dham by Guru Pratap Narayan (President), Sadhvi Vishnu Priya (Vice President), and Balkrishna Pandey (Secretary), and other well-wishing friends.
The institute has taken a leading role in the propagation of Odissi dance. Venunad Kala Kendra’s songs, music and dance performances have an essential aspect of classical Odissi, and are based on dramatic and lyrical expressions of great Braj/Bhakti saints and poets such as Surdas, Meera, Tulsi, Haridas, Hit Harivansh, Jayadeva (Geet Govind) and others.
