Mathura, 2019-10-09 (VT): The Uttar Pradesh cabinet headed by chief minister Yogi Adityanath recently approved a proposal for introducing 700 electric buses in 14 cities of the state including Mathura-Vrindavan, Agra and the state capital of Lucknow.
UP government spokesperson and Power Minister, Shrikant Sharma further informed that of these, 600 buses in 11 cities will run under the Central Government’s Fab India Scheme –II. For the rest, 100 buses will be made available, run and managed by the state government. The project, which will operate under the PPP (Public-Private Partnership) model, is expected to combat vehicular pollution in cities.
While Lucknow, Kanpur and Agra will get 100 electric buses each, Prayagraj, Mathura-Vrindavan, Varanasi, Ghaziabad and Meerut will get 50. Bus depots will also be constructed in every city. The entire project is estimated to cost Rs. 965 crores.
