Braj, 2019.03.13 (VT): Uttar Pradesh Deputy CM Keshav Prasad Maurya and Power Minister Shrikant Sharma took part in the grand Holi celebration held at Karshni Guru Sharanananda ji Maharaj’s ashram in Gokul, Raman Reti on Sunday (March 10).
Various programs were organised in the precincts of Thakur Raman Bihari temple in the Ashram. The day began with Laddu and Lathmaar Holi played by Raas Mandali artists. This was followed by flower, ‘Gulal’, Kesar-Chandan (saffron and sandalwood) and ‘Tesu colour’ Holi.
Tesu (botanical name: Butea Monosperma) is also called Dhak or Palaash in Hindi and Flame of the Forest in English. The bright reddish-orange flowers of this tree have traditionally been used to make colours for playing Holi.
Soaked in colours, devotees and saints danced to Rasiya and Holi songs all day. ‘Mayur Nritya’ (peacock dance) performed by Raas Mandali artists was the special attraction of the event.
Secretary of Ayodhya Ram Janmabhoomi Nivas, Mahant Nitya Gopal Das Maharaj and Jagadguru Ramanandacharya Vidya Bhaskar Maharaj were also present.
