Mathura, 2019.01.30 (VT): Actor-turned-politician, Hema Malini confirmed that she has been given the ‘green signal’ by the BJP higher-ups to contest 2019 LS polls from Mathura.
Inaugurating various projects, and laying the foundation stone for several others on Tuesday, among other things, she promised the modernization of Mathura Junction Railway Station.
The focus, she said, will be on making station hi-tech and providing more facilities for the convenience of travellers.
Among the facilities that the MP dedicated to the public on Tuesday were amenities for the specially-abled (divyaang) on Farah station; Bhuteshwar foot over-bridge; solar-energy harnessing systems at Mathura and Baad stations; renovation of the waiting room and reservation lounge, and widening of entry at Gate Number One at Mathura Junction. The combined cost of the projects was around 8 crore.
Gate No.2 and 3 will also be developed on the same lines. The BJP lawmaker has also requested Railway Minister Piyush Goyal to introduce a train between Mathura and Lucknow for the benefit of pilgrims from Eastern UP.
Hema Malini also laid the foundation stones for new projects worth 15-17 crore. These include a 6-mtr-wide foot over-bridge at Mathura Junction, escalators and two lifts.
Prior to unveiling the various projects, the minister also chaired a meeting to review the state of development projects in the constituency. She was particularly upset about the state of door-to-door garbage collection, cleanliness, toilet construction, and the lack of progress of the Amrut Yojana (Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation) in the 70 wards of Mathura-Vrindavan Municipal Corporation.
